Printed by sun, hand & heart

PsyanoForest is a multidisciplinary artist who blends the analogue with the digital to create dreamy fashion pieces, accessories, and elegant novelties. Most notably, PsyanoForest prints her work with the antique photographic process cyanotype. She also commercially reproduces her hand-drawn illustrations on silks to create other small-batch garments and accessories. Additionally, PsyanoForest creates laser-cut jewelry with acrylic. The imagery created in her prints and digital work include reimagined medical illustrations (both human and animal), pressed flowers, found objects, and digital photographs — often of flowers, insects, and spider webs. Also seen in her cyanotypes and acrylic work are what she calls her “Prey-Beasts,” which are based on butterflies, hummingbirds, moths, rabbits, and other animals. Repeating patterns of brass knuckles throughout the creatures’ constructions intertwine into wings and bones and hearts, weaving a narrative about human psychology and feminist/queer empowerment.

The artist behind Psyano Forest LLC is Amelia Volwiler-Stanley, a multidisciplinary artist living and working in Grand Rapids and Kalamazoo, Michigan. She received her BFA from Hope College and her MFA in Sculpture, Installation Art, and Printmaking from Indiana University Bloomington. AVS has worked extensively in many media, often merging them to some degree. You can see her previous works in installation art, printmaking, and sculpture at www.ameliavolwilerstanley.com.
